What the Plan Covers

The Plan includes a range of benefits to support your health and financial well-being, including:

  • Extended Health Care (prescription drugs, paramedical, vision, etc.)
  • Dental coverage
  • Life and dependent life insurance
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)
  • Long Term Disability (LTD)
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) (links to FSEAP contact us page)
  • Residential Rehabilitation benefit
  • Bereavement leave

These benefits are provided through a combination of insured and self-funded arrangements.

Who Is Eligible

To qualify for full benefits coverage:

  • You must be a member in good standing of Teamsters Local Union No. 155
  • Your employer must report 200 hours within a 10-month period

Once eligible, your coverage begins on the first day of the following month.

How Coverage Works (Hour Bank System)

The Plan operates on an hour bank system:

  • Hours worked are reported by your employer
  • Each month, 100 hours are deducted to maintain coverage
  • You can accumulate up to 1,200 hours (12 months of coverage)

This helps maintain your benefits during periods of reduced work or unemployment.

If You Don’t Have Enough Hours (Self-Pay)

If your hour bank falls below the required level:

  • You may continue coverage by making a self-payment
  • Self-pay is available for up to 12 months (or longer in certain cases)

You will be notified if a payment is required to maintain your coverage.

Coverage for Your Family

Coverage for dependents is not automatic. To cover your spouse or children, you must complete and submit an enrolment form.

Eligible dependents may include:

  • Your spouse or common-law partner
  • Your dependent children (subject to age and eligibility rules)

Disability & Extended Coverage

If you are unable to work due to illness or injury:

  • You may be eligible for Long Term Disability (LTD) benefits
  • Extended Health and Dental coverage may continue while on an approved disability claim

It is important to apply for benefits (such as EI or LTD) as soon as possible.

Coverage After You Stop Working

If you are no longer working:

  • Your coverage may continue while you have hours remaining in your hour bank
  • You may be able to self-pay to extend coverage
  • You may also be eligible for the Subsidized Retirement Plan (SRP)

The SRP provides continued access to health and dental benefits for eligible retired members.
